Shri Krishna - An approach to life
Krishna is not just an idol of Godhood. He is as vibrant and colourful as life; he is ever living. He faced challenges like us and still lived a quality Life. The life we aspire for…..
He is worshipped as Jagat Guru – the universal teacher. This resolves that he must have given some clarity may be in his words, deeds or demonstrated with the way he lived that could teach us the ways to be able to live a quality life like him.
Here is an insight, may be you will enjoy reading …….
It was holiday for Janamashtmi and we were enjoying watching a News Channel on Television. Channel was telecasting their explorations on Krishna in Mathura and Vrindavan. This program was targeted for masses as it was Janamashtmi and hence its telecast; but some how content of the program was difficult for me to digest. The information as per them were revelations by them, but to me this information was surprisingly not even superficial facts. The more they were harping on their ideologies, the more it was instigating that let me share my views on their findings, here we go…..
Let’s start with Flute of Krishna and the hidden messages in it. The decodation of the hidden messages could be dependent on individual interpretations and we could understand it our way but the process remains the same. The hidden essence or the sadhnatmak facts remains the same.
We all must have seen Krishna’s statues in some or the other temples near our place. They all have few basic things like Krishna’s style of standing, feather on the head, cow around him, flute on his lips, Radha on his side and many more. All of these convey some meaning and sets a direction for society to use at large for improving our quality of Life. Krishna had taken life as a celebration - be it in Vrindavan or Kurukshetra, he is enjoying his life. He has always favored Quality over Quantity. He had lead a life that demonstrated and propagated that, “whatever moments we have enjoyed fully with awareness adds up to be our Life”. The rest is wastage of an opportunity called life.
In today’s world we have forgotten all this and a blind race has started for quantity - more and more, even though we all know that there is no end to it. It only finishes our life but the desire for more is not ever over. Krishna suggests that enjoy and Live this very moment, one never knows that next moment will come or not, or what it will unfold, so we could decode that his definition of Life is - collection of moments that we celebrated, enjoyed, lived in full awareness independent of situation, surroundings and position. Quality moments collects to make a garland, called life. Such life then creates an impact on us, in family and society at a large.
Krishna enjoys his day during his youth by playing flute, his flute is really mesmerizing. It’s something that has created Life for many of us in last thousands of years and has potential to guide billions of us in all the times to come.
I believe this must have created a curiosity to know more about his flute and how it could be used in managing ourselves to actually be able to Live quality Life, so let me take you along into the flow of unfolding of mystery of his flute at three levels of Adhibhoutik, Adhidevik and Adhyatmik.
When flute is played it creates a very soothing music that takes us deep into ourselves. It’s a matter of experience, if is not yet tried, do give it a shot and rest will be done by this music. It’s the characteristic of music created by flute that we are thrown back into ourselves and these moments become treasure. Imagine what will happen when this flute is played inside.
Shri Krishnas flute on the second level of understanding explains the process of living a healthy and happy life. It is such that flute is analogous to our spine. Flute has holes and spine has ganglions. These ganglions corresponds to glands that produce endocrine and exocrine secretions required to create a dynamic balance in body to keep it fit and going. The secretions of these glands ensure that entire body is healthy and is able to create a happy life. This process is analogous to generation of music in a flute by production of notes in a synchronized way; else this will become a noise. Shri Krishna’s flute suggests that we keep our spine straight; we should work on spines elasticity to remain young forever and should blow this flute with deep breaths, so that good notes are produced for a wonderful life.
Now to understand the deeper third level of its significance, lets again observe the flute keenly, we find that it’s a hollow Bamboo with holes at some distance from each other. It’s closed on one end and open on the other. When blown from the closed end, harmonics are produced in the bamboo and they are then played by pressing holes to create notes of music. When some one plays with these notes devotedly, the flow is experienced as a divine grace. We must have experienced it at various occasions, while listening to instrumental music. It’s so soothing that many a times we start loosing ourselves. This is the impact of flute and its music on our SELF. Flute creates an impact inside us and our body gets stream of secretions from various endocrine glands. These secretions creates symphony of various metabolic activities in the body for Life to sustain.
Adhyatmik understanding starts from here and we find that the holes on the flute are like various Shunyas or spots of energy in our spine. These are generally referred to as Chakras in yogic terminology. These are the psychic centers of our existence and hence are very important for us to understand these. These Chakras are – Mooladhar, Swadhisthan, Manipur, Anahat, Vishudhi, Agya and Sahasrar. Therefore, playing flute is playing with the energy in these chakras to create a music, an attitude. Spine being the center for all our reflex actions and contains these chakras, hence they are also important for our reflex responses. These reflex responses are must to sustain Life and are an integral and important part of our Nervous System. A system that is responsible for our awareness, for our consciousness.
….by now it would have been realized that Krishna’s flute was no ordinary, it was Life vitalizing and controlling play of our inner awareness. Krishna playing flute is like our awareness moving up and down in our spine to ensure a response that creates an impact. This impact is then realized as Life.
Krishna’s flute is an excellent tool for handling any situation. It demonstrates a perfect blend of a leader and manager. He leads by blowing into flute and manages by pressing different holes on the flute, to ensure that these various notes are produced, to result in music. He ensures that flow from one note to another note is melodious and smooth; like a manager handling multiple tasks made up of small – small tasks but are integrated in a way by the manager that they produce music and not noise. He sets the direction by blowing, by commanding and then takes feedbacks by pressing different holes. The hidden management thought here could be decoded as, that Krishna remains in the middle of Leader and Manager Role and hence does play both roles to create a desired musical effect. The role he will play depends on the situation demand. Flute playing is pressing the notes in a sequence and at an apt time, else it will not be music; this highlights concept of time management and this is flowing out of ‘the being’ of him. Therefore, time is managed. The concept of time here is to be in present moment and letting the doing flowing out of one self for the desires to be fulfilled. Time in this situation starts reducing entropy to make life more and more beautiful.
Krishna’s flute when blown by him with small quantity of air creates a huge impact of the music. It becomes highly productive, motivating, challenging and driving for Life.
He does all this and remains in celebration mode, therefore, its not tiring for him. He is able to live a quality Life, leaving results to follow their own course. He had explained this in great way to Arjun in Shrimadbhagwad Gita as Karmayoga. He is just playing for his enjoyment and results are following.
Krishna’s flute when decoded in Tantra it becomes Mundmala that Kali wears; its Akshmala as Mantra explains; its Kriya of Kriya Yog; its Kundalini Jagran of yog and its Sudarshan of Vishnu that keeps moving like the revolutions created by repetitive use of these 7 notes. It has many-many more explanations that only widen our understanding, but the News reader was continuing on all their points to ensure that they are having a program for Janamashtami.
The emerging trends in the society suggest that such programs and education are ale to create a desire in individual for understanding facts. This desire then compels a person to find out the truth to the extent possible. I believe we are now approaching a point of inflection where we could start seeing radical changes at individual and social level, taking us back to the roots. The condition prevalent today is such that we have broken cultural, social and humanitarian considerations in our engagements. Its only selfish desires that are driving relationships – be it family, friends or business but in this land of Gods and with Gita holding culture of this country for so long, we could expect a turn around in near future when we will have more civilised society with human value system. Krishna is the guide of the present and hope for the future to cultivate Life in our struggle for survival.
Next time, let’s try to explore - how this flute is creating a music in our life ?
what could be the way to handle it consciously ?
How we could play this inner flute and enjoy a qaulity life ? Om Tat Sat
