Learnings....... Part-2

He started telling that there was a saint who was very humble and kind to humans…. He never ever would have hurted anybody. He always stood by the truth and had to face lot of adversities. People tried demoralizing him, they went up to pelting stones on him but he was never dithered. He was as he wanted to be an honest humble person, who genuinely was there to support everybody including his enemies.

He woke up in Braham-muhurat as he used to always do and went to the riverside for taking bath. He had a full bath and enjoyed his being in that holy river…. He started praying…… and reciting mantras and offered arghya to the God Sun. suddenly he shouted with pain and he could not hold his hands together. He saw a Scorpio in his hands that fell into river water. He immediately picked him up. The Scorpio bit him again….. he could not hold his hands together and Scorpio fell into water. Saint didn’t bother; his face was full of pain….. eyes were full of tears and  still he was getting into water to pick that Scorpio again. He kept on trying to bring that Scorpio to the river bank and some how after lot of pain finally succeeded in the same. The Scorpio made his way and saint fell down on the bank. He was getting unconscious, a person who was around and was watching this rushed to him and lifted him to take him to ayurvedacharya for treatment. In the meanwhile he could not control his curiosity and asked saint that why did you picked up that Scorpio. You knew that he will kill you, still you kept on trying. Why did you do so???? Any sane person will not repeat this activity. Scorpio is an animal and it will bit again and again……

You should not have done that… He was wondering but saint was silent having pain, yet smiling….. saint replied that it was his dharma to bit and it was my dharma to save him. He did his best and I did my best….. and saint became unconscious.

There was a silence in the room. I didn’t probe further…. I had got the message loud and clear. My father was silently watching my facial expressions and trying to dig out if I have understood the meaning…..

I said Ok Papa as you said, I will decide now what is to be done. He said you are welcome.

Sometime later he came to me asking that why I didn’t went to play with my friends. I promptly reverted that I was trying to figure out few things after you had told me that story…..

Till today, I find that story so powerful and motivating that one has to stick to his own Dharma whatever may be the situation and there will be testing times and people, situations, time…. Will try to dither but one has to remain on his dharma.

This is depicted clearly in Ramayan and Mahabharat and I have a firm believe that its better to stick to own dharma – whatever it may be.
