I would request you to just recall our Physics lectures. It will  remind you of the Seebeck effect. 
yes, Thomas Johann Seebeck discovered it in 1821.

Right, Its a phenomenon in which a temperature difference  between two dissimilar electrical conductors or semiconductors  produces a voltage difference between the two substances.
Now, consider the temperature difference across poles of Rudraksh in the light of Seebeck effect. We  could note that along Rudraksh  as the coolness and hotness on the two ends increases, the  potential difference across the two ends increases and a current  starts flowing between Ida and Pingla nadis in the head. This is a  great secret that this charge then have to flow through Sushumna. This is the basis for Sahasrar Kriya.
Here the hidden sadhnatmak truth is to maximize the temperature difference so that potential  difference increases and a spark  happens to create a glow or illumination across this hypothetical  axis. 
This way we observe that temperature difference across Rudraksh enlightens the path for self  realisation. 
The biggest challenge for any Tantric or Yogi is that they rise upto  Agya with the difference in polarities represented by Male and  Female energies. At Agya Ardhnarishwar stage is realized. 
 Ardhnarishwar means a dynamic balance between the male and  female energies. This happens in a way that they coexist in one.
  This polarity which was in the driving seat for realization so far  gets uprooted with the establishment of this balance.

The Shiva Mahapurana, Vidyesvara-samhita, chapter 25 shlokas 89 and 90 highlights that Shiv himself explains the greatness of the Bhasma and Rudraksha to Devi Parvati. Shivasyatipriyau gyeyau bhasmaRudrakshaadharinau | Taddhamaprabhavaddhi bhuktirmuktirna samshaya || 89 || The person who wears bhasma and Rudraksha are very dear to Lord Shiv, they get all their desires fulfilled and gets liberated. BhasmaRudrakshaadhari yah shivabhaktah sa uchyate | Panchaksharam japasaktah paripurnashcha sanmukhe || 90 || There is no doubt that wearing bhasma (sacred ash), Rudraksha and Panchakshri delivers liberation!
